Back in January 2004, I saw a thread posted on the Acoustic Guitar Magazine's Luthier Discussion Forum titled "Looking for a few good makers" with the following: "I've contacted a number of you with my decorative finish work over the past 6 months. I'll be having a shows of the work (in art galleries) next year and am asking for 8 more luthiers to collaborate with me. The shows will highlight each individual luthier along with my work, but I will make sure all get equal billing as well as $ from sales and free advertising. Also you get your guitar back if it doesn't sell. And you can simply strip my finish if you desire and resell, if you desire. No strings attached (so to speak)and I'll sign any guarantees you require. I've got 4 good people so far and think it will be a very interesting project for all concerned. Tell me what you think and if interested in seeing the guitar world meet the art world please contact me"
In a later thread on Baritone guitars I posted a picture of "Treebeard", and was surprised and delighted to be contacted by Peter and asked to be part of this exciting project, given the short time I have been making guitars. I have decided to make a "Nancy" guitar in European Spruce and East Indian Rosewood, but with a slightly deeper body - 4" rather than 3.5". "Painted Nancy" was shipped on the 13th May 2004 and arrived in New Mexico at 4pm on the 14th May 2004. In early August 2004 Peter started Nancy's "transformation". It's amazing that Peter manages this delicacy and detail using just tinted lacquer. The design is based on The Book of Kells. Peter and I have become great friends through this project and he has a Treebeard baritone in European spruce/Cuban mahogany. You can find out more details about Peter Cree's exciting project on Art Guitars and see some examples of his workat his website
